Cynthia Beck

Cynthia Beck, M.Sc., is a Registered Psychologist (provisional) who provides mental health services in rural Saskatchewan. She proudly volunteers as a director of the SaskAgMatters Mental Health Network Incorporated and is an active advocate of mental health in agriculture. Her family operates a multi-generational mixed cattle and grain farm near Milestone, SK.
Heather Watson

Heather Watson

Heather Watson leads the team as Executive Director of Farm Management Canada, a national non-profit organization dedicated to increasing the awareness, appreciation and adoption of farm business management practices to help position Canada’s farmers for sustainable growth and prosperity. Heather is also the Canadian representative to the International Farm Management Association. In 2022, Heather was recognized as one of Canada’s Influential Women in Canadian Agriculture. Heather obtained her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Guelph and went on to obtain her Master’s degree from the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom. Born in Strathroy, Ontario Heather now lives in Ottawa.
Roberta Galbraith

Roberta Galbraith

Roberta Galbraith is a fifth generation farmer, lifelong learner, connector of people, problem solver and self-proclaimed work-a-holic! As a partner of RNR Galbraith Farms, she enthusiastically brings her passion for people and farm management to this role.? Her work experience includes 16 years in the Agriculture finance sector, 16 years as an Executive Director of a not-for-profit organization and 9 years with a commodity organization, all while raising 5 children and building a 1st generation family farm. She is a graduate of the University of Manitoba Agriculture Diploma program and a recipient of the Certificate of Merit for Leadership in the Industry.? She is a founding board member of the Manitoba Farmer Wellness Program and passionate advocate for farmer mental health and wellness.  She currently is a member of an all-women farmer peer group where she receives inspiration from fellow farmers.  RNR Galbraith farms grows a variety of crops consisting of wheat, canola, fall rye, barley and peas.?

She believes strongly that we can always do better and that if we embrace opportunity there is little we can not accomplish, including Farm Transition planning!

Gavin Betker

Gavin Betker

Gavin Betker is a Farm Management Consultant with Backswath Management. He graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) in 2004.

Having grown up on a farm, Gavin shares Backswath’s passion for advancing farm management. After obtaining his business degree, he worked as a production manager for Jeld-Wen Windows and Doors in Winnipeg. Not long after, he was promoted to regional service and logistics manager for the Southern Alberta region. Eventually, he decided to change career tracks and returned to his roots and came back to Manitoba to farm. He spent four years as a hired farmhand and learned even more about the agricultural industry first-hand. Gavin has been with Backswath since 2013, where he is combining his business and farm backgrounds together as a consultant.

In his spare time, Gavin likes to stay active playing ultimate, soccer, hockey, and curling. He is a volunteer for IRCOM, the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization of Manitoba. He also was a board member for Motionball Winnipeg – a charity fundraising event for the Special Olympics.

Josee Lemoine

Josee Lemoine

Josée Lemoine is Chief Executive Officer at Backswath Management, since she took over from Terry Betker, now Founder and President, in October 2022. She has worked as a management consultant since 1998 across numerous industries; her specialty is to work with business owners to develop strategic plans, and coach them through to implementation.

Josée is a Certified Management Consultant (CMC) a globally recognized designation. She has completed a Bachelor of Commerce Honours in International Business from the Asper School of Business, including a semester abroad at the Fundacao Getulio Vargas in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She has a Bachelor of Arts in French and Spanish from the University of Manitoba and she has lived a year in Lisbon, Portugal.

Josée kicked off her consulting career at MNP LLP, and left her role as a manager in 2005. She joined Encore Business Solutions as a Strategy Leader and VP of Business Development, leading the launch of a procurement software program developed for the ethanol industry. In 2008, Josée founded Pivot Performance, a management consulting company specializing in strategic planning and facilitation and worked there until she merged with Backswath in August 2019.

Terry Betker

Terry Betker

Terry Betker, P.Ag., CAC, CMC is President and Founder of Backswath Management. Terry has an interest and passion in providing consulting expertise to farmers and agribusinesses, focusing primarily on strategic and transition (succession) planning, financial performance analysis and general business management.  

He is recognized for his leading-edge contribution to farm business management at the farm, industry, and government level within Canada. Terry was awarded the prestigious 2015 Wilson Loree Award for having made an extraordinary contribution to developing and promoting new and positive change in agricultural business management practices and expertise in Canada. 

He is a sessional instructor at the University of Manitoba’s agriculture diploma program. He has spoken across Canada and internationally in the United States, Mexico, Chile, Poland, Netherlands, Tasmania, and New Zealand. 

Terry’s passion for helping farm business originates from his roots on the family farm near Souris, MB where he spent nearly 20 years farming with his parents and brother.
